ERICKSON 1924 - 2008 After a lengthy illness, Victor Erickson passed away on September 28, 2008 at the Selkirk General hospital at the age of 83 years. Victor was predeceased by his beloved wife Esther; his parents Asta and Jon (Jack); his sister Irene and brothers Clarence and Wilfred. He leaves to mourn his daughter Laurel Anne (Dean); his son Frederick; his grandson Cole; his brother Lloyd (Mary) as well as many other family members and friends. Victor was born in Selkirk on December 6, 1924. He worked with his father at the Selkirk Enterprise until he joined the Air Force to serve in the Second World War. After the war he returned to Selkirk to work at the Rolling Mills until going into partnership with his father at the paper. In 1951 Victor chose to rejoin the Air Force. Shortly thereafter he and Esther married and moved about with the Forces until they returned to Selkirk where Victor worked at Mandak Metals until he retired. Victor believed in the value of working for the service of others and this was evident throughout the years. He was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion #42, a Past President of the Over 60 Club Br. 42, a Master Mason of the Selkirk Lisgar Lodge, a past member of the Shrine Patrol, and together with Esther members of the Order of the Eastern Star. Victor also served the community of Selkirk on the Chamber of Commerce, a Community Justice of the Peace and a Marriage Commissioner. Victor enjoyed the company of his family, friends and those he met in his endeavors. He was especially proud of being Afi to his only grandson Cole. The Royal Canadian Legion also was a special meeting place for him. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Home Care workers for their dedication and assistance and to many others who were so generous with their time and expertise. A prayer service will be held on Thursday, October 2, at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 3 at 1:00 p.m. in the Evangelical Lutheran Church, 329 Clandeboye Ave. at Jemima St. in Selkirk with Pastor Stan Richards officiating. Interment of ashes will take place prior to the service at 12:00 noon at the Selkirk Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, it was Victor's wish, that anyone wishing to, donate to the Memorial fund in his memory to the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Selkirk P.O. Box 65, Selkirk R1A 2B1. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
